We work alongside nature to bring you specialty chemicals and ingredients in the most sustainable, accessible, and high-quality way, by enhancing fungi and precision fermentation.
At RebX, we are dedicated to revolutionizing specialty chemicals production. Traditional methods of extracting molecules for perfumes, sweeteners, vitamins and so on, rely on resource-intensive plant-extraction or organic synthesis, leading to significant environmental consequences.
Our mission is to address this issue by developing sustainable and cost-effective production methods that minimize resource consumption and reduce pollution. By making specialty chemicals in an accesible, scalable and environmentally-friendly manner, we aim to create a positive impact and provide consumers with guilt-free choices.
How do we do it?
We combine the best in biology and technology to teach fungi, the oldest “factories”, to produce daily-use molecules.
We engineer fungi
Using metabolic engineering we teach fungi how to produce molecules like fragrances, sweeteners, colorants, vitamins, flavors, and much more!
They ferment
We feed them with organic feedstock, and ferment them to produce the desired chemicals.
You obtain great molecules!
We're able to purify those molecules so they can be added to your favorite products with the lowest carbon-footprint.
SclareolNatural replacement for ambergris, which is highly used in perfumery and comes from sperm whale secretion. Sclareol comes from the clary sage plants but its extraction methods still have intense-resource use.
Fragrances grown not extracted
Fragrances are mainly extracted from tons of plants or synthesized using petroleum-based and polluting compounds. We are aiming to produce them through fermentation: sustainably, cheaper, and high-quality.
Problems of common methods
High carbon footprint
Intense resources use due to low yields
High production costs
Supply chain inestability
Sometimes unethically sourced
Advantages of RebX technology
Lower carbon fooprint vs plant-based
Higher yields than competitors
Lower production costs vs plant-based
Climate, region, and geopolitical independent
Possibility for +35 molecules
Resource use
Imagine that for obtaining only 1 kg of Sclareol a natural Ambergris replacement, you’d need crop land equivalent to:
8 basketball courts Using plant-extraction method
VS
4% of just ONE basketball court With RebX technology
Let's use our resources wisely.
Fragrances are just the beginning...
We’re working on a portfolio of +35 molecules, paving the way to a more sustainable future at everyone’s reach.
